A British soldier is feared to have been killed after going missing in Ukraine,the Express understands.
Christopher Edward Walker, 39, died during battles in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, according to Rodion Miroshnik, an ambassador-at-large for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The British citizen’s passport, driving licence and other documents were highlighted – but no proof was given of his death.
A separate macabre photograph showing a dead soldier with a wounded face could not be firmly identified as being Walker.
“The guards of the 144th Guards Motor Rifle Division of the 20th Guards Combined Arms Army liquidated a British citizen, [Christopher Edward] Walker, born on December 10, 1985, a native of the small settlement of Rowton in north-east Wiltshire, England,” posted Miroshnik.
However, the specific details of his alleged death were not given.
The Foreign Office told the Express in a statement: “We are supporting the family of a British man who is missing in Ukraine and are in contact with the local authorities.”
Under Ukrainian law, service personnel are officially considered as missing-in-action unless their body is recovered or the authorities receive proof of life.
Walker was a former Royal Artillery gunner in the British Army, according to reports.
He is said to have joined the Ukrainian armed forces in mid-2023. Miroshnik – whose role is to monitor alleged “crimes” by the “Kyiv regime”, named Walker “a British Nazi mercenary”.
“His presence speaks of the direct participation of British mercenaries in military actions in Ukraine.”
Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper said he was a rifleman in Ukraine’s 17th Separate Brigade. The report said his body would not be repatriated.
This month, the death of James Wilton, 18, from Huddersfield, was announced.
He was killed by a drone on his first combat mission, it was reported.
Last month, ex-British Army sniper Alexander Garms-Rizzi, 23, was killed in Ukraine while trying to save fellow soldiers.
