Despite the dramatic encounter, the plane safely continued its journey and underwent inspection upon landing at Heathrow Airport before resuming service.

After any such incident, aircraft are routinely inspected by engineers to ensure their continued airworthiness.
Contrary to concerns raised on social media, West emphasized that lightning strikes pose minimal risk to passengers aboard commercial aircraft.

“These aircraft are designed in order to take this type of lightning strike,” he stated confidently.
While lightning strikes on aeroplanes are not unheard of, capturing such an event on video is a rarity.
“With no lightning predicted in the weather forecast, it was kind of out of the blue,” West said.
He added: “I wasn’t even thinking about it at the time. I was just thinking about getting a cool video of the Triple Seven departing.”
