Strawberries and lemonade may not seem like the typical ingredients you reach for when baking bread, but it’s exactly what one food influencer suggests. This delicious recipe offers a sweet twist on bread, with the result being somewhat scone-like.
This recipe was shared on Instagram by Laura Nightingale, who posts under the handle @cakeontherun. In her video, she said, “I bet you’ve never poured a can of lemonade into a bowl of flour and strawberries.” While it may not be a typical bread recipe, it’s certainly gone down a treat with her followers, with one labelling the bread “blooming delicious.”
Another of Laura’s followers wrote: “Why am I only finding out about this now? Years of not baking cakes because I hate eggs, and apple cider vinegar as an alternative.”
To which the baking pro replied: “You’ve got to give it a go.”
A third commenter shared their own tips, writing: “Been doing this for years as an alternative to eggs with cake mixes. Can add sparkling water too if you don’t want to use a flavoured fizzy drink. You can do a chocolate cake mix like Betty Crocker with a 300ml can of Coke.”
Ingredients
- 75g of self-raising flour
- 50g of lemonade
- A Handful of chopped strawberries
Method
Mix the flour, lemonade, and strawberries together to form a dough ball. Add more liquid if the dough is too dry or more flour if it’s too wet. Place the dough in an ovenproof dish and flatten it until it forms a loaf shape.
Airfry at 200 °C for 10 minutes, or bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Cook for longer if the bread is still wet in the middle. Once the bread has finished baking, slice and serve immediately.
