Brazil murder probe police arrest man after British journalist shot dead


Police leading a murder investigation in Brazil after the death of a British journalist and an Indigenous expert have arrested another man. 

Journalist Dom Phillips and expert Bruno Pereira were on the way back from a reporting expedition in the western Amazon on June 5, 2022. Police say the pair are believed to have been ambushed and then shot.

They had been to the remote Javari valley. Federal police in Brazil say Ruben Dario da Silva Villar has been charged with ordering their deaths, reports the Guardian.

While three fishers were also arrested for the killings. They are currently awaiting trial.

Public security minister Flávio Dino says the latest arrest was for suspected witness intimidation and attempting to interefere with the investigation.
