Brand new restaurant where diners must get inside car to eat

The UK’s first restaurant located exclusively in the back of an electric car is set to open to the public within days. Backseat Bites promises to offer a “unique taste of Korea” from the peculiar surroundings of a Hyundai EV.

The new concept is inspired by the South Korean cultural phenomenon of Honbap, meaning to dine alone. The electric vehicle restaurant space has been designed with both solo diners and duos in mind, making it a space for almost everyone. Diners can also enjoy Korean street art while tucking into classic offerings such as Beef Tartar, BBQ Pork Belly, and Cold Kimchi Noodles.

Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai and Genesis UK, said: “Backseat Bites is more than just a restaurant. Designed for the nation’s adventurers, whether solo or with friends, it offers guests an entirely unique taste of Korea from an unexpected location – the backseat of a car.

“Hosted from the comfort of our brand-new INSTER, its spacious, stylish interior and fold-flat seating makes this latest addition to our range of EVs the perfect host for this unique experience.

“From the bespoke artwork to the traditional cuisine, Backseat Bites is a celebration of Korean culture and a tribute to the joy of doing things your own way.”

A new survey from Hyundai has found 71% of Brits find solo experiences empowering. Eating out at a café, pub, or restaurant is among the most popular solo experiences, enjoyed by 66% of individuals.

Backseat Bites will be open to the public on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025 in London’s Soho. Located on Greek Street, the unique stall is offering limited tickets on Eventbrite ahead of the one-day opening.

The display is a keen opportunity for Hyundai to show off its new all-electric INSTER model launching later this year. The Hyundai INSTER is available on the market from £23,495. However, road users can take advantage of PCP offers from just £249 a month.

Hyundai explains that UK customers have access to immediate savings on the brand’s full EV line-up through the Hyundai Electric Grant. This provides an immediate £3,750 off the price of an INSTER, as well as £1,500 off all other EVs, including the KONA Electric and IONIQ models.
