Police in Spain have made a tragic discovery following an extensive search for a British expat who disappeared last month. Andrew J. W., a Briton who moved to Marbella, was reported missing on Friday, August 15.
A major search operation was launched for the man, who has been reported as being 65 or 66 years old. He is understood to have been preparing to return to the UK at the time he vanished, as per The Olive Press.
He was previously reported to have driven away from his home in his black Volkswagen Golf, as per Sur in English.
Investigators attempted to piece together his movements which led them to search the Paraiso area of Estepona, which is near to where he was last seen.
The dense woodland area had previously been searched using drones without success.
Another search of the zone was carried out on Friday by investigators with the support of local emergency services.
However, police say the remains haven’t yet been formally identified.
An autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
SOS Desaparecido, a non-profit that works to locate missing people, previously put out an appeal for information showing a photograph of the British national and urging people with information to come forward.
