Blur fans say there's one song that 'makes them cry' every time

Blur enthusiasts have shared which track from the iconic British band’s discography never fails to bring them to tears.

Their latest album, The Ballad of Darren, released in 2023, has notably stirred emotions, leading followers to delve deep into their past work for other evocative numbers.

Although tunes such as ‘Tender’ and ‘Out of Time’ might evoke tears, devotees on the r/Blur subreddit shared that a particular piece from their celebrated 1994 album as the ultimate emotional song.

The track comes from ‘Parklife’ – an album containing chart-toppers like ‘Tracy Jacks’ and ‘Girls and Boys’. But it’s actually This Is A Low that was deemed the most emotionally stirring.

Taking to Reddit, one fan wrote: “This is a Low is so good it genuinely makes me cry. I literally just cried thinking of This Is A Low because it’s so beautiful.”

Another fan agreed: “I wasn’t thinking of anything that could make me cry before, but that song awakens so many feelings in me it’s not even funny. If it was a person I would give it the world.”

“There’s something about Damon’s voice and the lyrics that are so simple and somewhat nonsensical but sound like they hold so much meaning that makes it an unforgettable song.

“If you haven’t yet please listen to it. I hope it can make you feel what I feel.” Music enthusiasts have hailed This is a Low for its exceptional range, with numerous fans declaring it their “favourite” of all time.

One admirer commented: “Truly one of my favourite songs of all time. It makes you feel as if you’re floating and swooping all around England in the rain while Damon sings.

“I love the quintessential Englishness of it plus the slow tempo, as it’s both relaxing and an epic at the same time. It’s just such a good song.”

The beloved track also stands out during live performances, as evidenced by Blur fans’ recollections. A concertgoer from a 1999 show reminisced: “I first saw Blur in the Point Theatre in Dublin in 1999.

“I only knew the albums Blur and 13, and a few of the earlier hits. That night was the first time I heard This is a Low. It was so beautiful, it absolutely knocked me for six. I ran out and bought Parklife the next day. This is a Low is still my favourite Blur song.”

Graham Coxon’s guitar prowess on the track has not gone unnoticed, with some fans considering ‘This is a Low’ to be one of his finest studio moments.

They expressed: “This is not a hot take by any means but I think it’s Graham’s best guitar playing ever and honestly might top 10 all time…the chord progression, main riffs/etc, the two intertwined guitar solos gnarled together.”

For another fan, the ‘Parklife’ album was a transformative experience, turning them from a “casual fan to unreasonably obsessed”. We have to agree!
