Blink and you’ll miss Amazon’s smart camera and doorbell bundle offer

Amazon is famed for its popular Fire Stick, Fire tablet and Kindle device lines, but the firm has also got a range of smart home gadgets in its stable. The firm acquired security camera company Blink in 2017 and still releases new smart cameras under the brand.

Right now, Amazon is offering the Blink Outdoor 4 camera and Blink doorbell for £69.99 in a “limited time deal”. The bundle normally costs £49.99, so this is a 42 percent saving on the usual £119.98 cost of buying both items separately.

These are the latest models of the two smart home devices, which are designed to add layers of security and peace of mind to your home.

As this is a limited time deal, we don’t know how long the £69.99 bundle price will last.

As the name suggests, the Blink Outdoor 4 is for external use and can be affixed to walls, trees or any appropriate surface to keep an eye on your property when you are in or away on holiday.

It connects to the Blink app and lets you speak to anyone who might pass by – just like the doorbell – thanks to two-way audio.

Powered by two AA batteries, the unit is said to last for up to two years before you need to replace the cells. Amazon also says it is highly weather resistant and can be used in temperatures ranging from -20C to 45C. With an IP65 dust and water resistance rating, it’ll handle all conditions.

Despite the ‘Outdoor’ name, this lens can easily be used inside, if you prefer.

You might want to do that, as the included Blink doorbell in this bundle is obviously taking care of things at your front door. You’ll get smartphone notifications when someone buzzes, so you can see who is there or talk to them if you’re not in. You can also hook up the doorbell to any Amazon Echo speaker to use as an audible chime – this bundle does not come with one.

The doorbell’s camera has a 1080p HD resolution and infrared night video, so you can see if anyone is snooping around or simply clearly see who called when you were out thanks to motion detection.

LIke the camera, the doorbell runs on two AA batteries and needs to be set up and connected to Wi-Fi using the Blink app. It comes with a mounting kit including all the screws and fixings, but you’ll need a drill or at least a screwdriver to mount it depending on the surface.

One thing to bear in mind is that to access all the features you will need to pay for a Blink subscription. Not paying only gives you motion activated notifications and five minutes of extended live viewing.

Blink Basic costs £2.99 per month or £24.99 per year and adds most of the products’ features. Blink Plus costs £8 or £80 per year and adds everything to the mix. You can view and compare all the plans and their features here.
