A blind dog’s mistake sparked a huge deadly fire in Northern California that swallowed a family’s home, killing two family pets and forcing a heartbroken mom and her sons to rebuild.

The family’s 9-year-old blind German shepherd accidentally turned on the stovetop while attempting to grab a box of burrito wrappers, leading to a massive fire spreading across the ceiling and attic last Thursday in Rough and Ready, according to a GoFundMe for the family.

“Jody is raising this fundraiser for Martina and her three sons after a devastating house fire destroyed the home… Martina and Jared are separated, but many of Martina’s belongings and the boys’ things were still in the home when the fire happened,” the GoFundMe read.

“Thankfully, everyone is safe, but the loss has been overwhelming. Their two beloved dogs did not survive, the kitchen was destroyed, and smoke and soot spread throughout the house, leaving the home and everything inside unusable,” it continued.

Martina’s sons also lost most of their possessions such as their clothes and toys.

The GoFundMe will be used to help Martina and her three kids rebuild by replacing “clothing, beds, toys, furniture, and other everyday necessities, including Martina’s personal belongings that were still in the home.”

$3,000 of the fundraiser’s $4,000 goal has been raised so far.

Another dog in Maryland destroyed a home this past summer after accidentally turning on a toaster. The incident occurred in mid-July when the dog repeatedly jumped onto the kitchen counter and turned on a toaster, leading to nearby combustibles igniting. As a result, the entire home burned down and three pets were killed.

“12 weeks ago we lost it all and walked away with – quite literally – only the clothes we were wearing, nothing else. It is from the help of all of you that we were able to eat, buy clothing and move from the hotel to this apartment and have the necessities,” the family’s GoFundMe wrote.
