Meghan Markle will always have a royal title even if her Duchess of Sussex title was scrapped for one very specific reason. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, married Prince Harry in May 2018 – having him to thank for another royal title that she doesn’t use as often. Through her marriage to the once-popular royal, Meghan is also technically known as Princess Henry, according to the Mirror.
As well as the Duchess of Sussex title, Meghan was also bestowed the titles two other titles after her royal wedding to Harry – the Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel. Although the Duke, 40, is widely known as Harry, his birth name is actually Henry.
Following much discussion over whether Prince Harry and Meghan should be scrapped of their royal titles, she would still be ok to use the title that would likely “confuse a lot of Americans”.
Royal expert and Editor in Chief of Majesty Magazine, Ingrid Seward previously told The Royal Beat: “I don’t think anything will happen to the titles because, if they lose their titles, Harry is still a prince of the blood and Meghan instead of being the Duchess of Sussex, [would] be Princess Henry… That really would [confuse the Americans].”
Speaking of her belief that Meghan and Harry’s titles should remain as they are, she added: “I think [it’s] probably best just to leave it because it looks unkind, it looks unnecessary.
“The Queen gave them the titles, let them keep them – they’re going to be ‘H and M’ anyway. I think the best thing is to leave them, ignore them, and let them get on with it – which is really what the Palace and the Royal Family are doing.”
The couple made the decision to step down from royal duties in 2020, moving to the US later that year. The couple now reside in California with their two children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.
