California’s most famous bald eagle couple have laid a new egg — weeks after a raven breached their nest in Big Bear and destroyed their previous clutch.
This marks the third egg of the year for Jackie and Shadow, who have captivated viewers tuning in to their live nest cam.
Footage captured Jackie standing up to reveal the freshly laid egg for a brief moment before settling back down around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, ABC 7 reported.
The welcome news comes just a month after the pair lost two eggs when a predatory raven swooped in after Jackie and Shadow left the nest for several hours.
“We will never know why, but we are sure they had their reasons as they have been incubating the eggs faithfully,” the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley, which owns and operates the camera, said at the time.
“It is possible Jackie and Shadow sensed something was wrong with the egg. They could have also been protecting their territory as many other bald eagles have been seen in the valley recently.”
The couple previously raised Sunny and Gizmo, two eaglets who hatched last year.
