A waiter has been arrested after he was allegedly caught filming women with a hidden camera in the female toilet of a Benidorm bar.
Benidorm is famous the world over for its vibrant nightlife, which attracts tourists in the millions.
It is also a magnet for British tourists looking to party, with over 600,000 reported to have visited the resort between January and August of this year.
The 27-year-old from Nepal, allegedly placed his mobile phone behind a picture frame to capture images of women using the bathroom.
The tourism worker allegedly managed to capture videos of customers and employees.
It is suspected the worker may have installed the mobile device the previous day as he had used the women’s bathroom to change before starting his work shift.
At least five women were recorded, two of whom were employees of the establishment.
Customers raised their suspicions that they feared they were being recorded with the police. Upon arriving at the scene, the force uncovered a picture frame with a hole and a mobile phone behind it.
A patrol from the National Police recovered the mobile phone and after initial investigations, one of the establishment’s workers was arrested at the scene.
The suspect, who had no prior criminal record, has been charged with the crime of discovery and disclosure of secrets.
He was brought before the Duty Court of Instruction in Benidorm, with proceedings remaining open to discover other possible victims.
