Benidorm has been lashed by heavy rain and flash flooding as the summer holiday season comes to an abrupt end. However, one happy-go-lucky man took advantage of the storm by swimming down a high street.
The young man was photographed surfing and swimming down the street in Benidorm as the popular holiday destination was battered by rain on Tuesday, September 9. The deluge of downpours flooded streets and beaches across the area, putting a dampener on many tourists’ holidays.
Travellers across Spain have been issued with weather warnings in recent days. Benidorm is one of the affected areas, with biblical rain lashing the holiday hotspot.
Punters have been forced to take cover as streets and paths flood across the region. The storm has also uprooted trees and washed out popular beaches.

Elsewhere in Spain, a yellow weather alert was issued in the Costa del Sol with strong gales and heavy rain forecast. State weather agency Aemet warned of winds hitting 40mph from the West and South West.
Tarragona has been issued a red alert, with Valencia, Huesca and Teruel also preparing for heavy downpours and thunderstorms.
In the north east of Spain, airports have faced severe delays and cancellations. It has led to major travel disruption across the Balearic Islands, Catalonia and Valencia.
The wet and unsettled weather is expected to continue on Wednesday (September 10). Rubén del Campo, an Aemet spokesman, said the forecast predicts intense thunderstorms with localised heavy downpours, accompanied by hail and strong gusts of wind.
The turbulent conditions form part of a broader Atlantic system sweeping across Spain. From Thursday onwards, temperatures are set to rise across the nation.
