Today, it’s arguably the most Instagram-worthy location in the region, a regular feature across TikTok videos, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Initially built by the Braithwaite family for apple storage, this building has fulfilled numerous roles through the ages.
It has operated as a tea-room, cobbler’s workshop, chair maker’s premises and even accommodated a family of eight at one stage.
During the 1920s, it was donated to the National Trust and now welcomes visitors on chosen days annually.
However, Ambleside boasts another hidden gem that truly sparkles during the autumn months, drawing the eye of TikTok enthusiasts.
The Apple Pie Cafe and Bakery serves as the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat. TikTok user @beckielees dubbed it a “must visit local bakery”.
The Guardian also featured the cafe in its list of the finest dining spots in and around the Lake District, positioning it alongside Simon Rogan’s Cartmel-based Rogan and Co, and The Forest Side in Grasmere.
Founded in 1975, the cafe even offers B&B accommodation next door for visitors needing a place to stay.
The spot boasts an extensive takeaway selection with an array of freshly baked treats. Meanwhile, the cafe itself dishes up everything from hearty breakfasts to filled rolls and warming soups.
Obviously, tasting its famous apple pie is a must during your visit. Customers can opt for a classic apple pie or one enhanced with mixed spice and sultanas, served alongside fresh whipped cream, vanilla ice cream or custard.
