One of Wales’ top seaside towns, boasting sandy  beaches, resident dolphins and a top-notch ice cream parlour recently named one of the UK’s best by the Sunday Times, is nestled on the Llŷn Peninsula. The charming coastal town of Abersoch, located on Pen Llŷn, is one of the most picturesque spots along the Llŷn.

This northwestern Welsh peninsula is brimming with natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and idyllic beaches. Encircled by the crystal-clear waters of the Irish Sea on one side and Cardigan Bay on the other, this Welsh region offers a perfect alternative to a holiday abroad, complete with a plethora of activities, accommodation options, and independent restaurants and cafes. Visitors can explore remnants of Iron Age forts and islands, enjoy expansive stretches of sandy beaches, and visit numerous quaint coastal villages and historic sites.

Dubbed the ‘Welsh Riviera,’ Abersoch, situated on the southern part of the Llŷn, is renowned for its sandy beaches, internationally acclaimed sailing waters, and a bustling high street filled with trendy bars, eateries, major brands, and independent boutiques, reports WalesOnline.

Visit on a warm day when the skies are clear and the sea is shimmering, and you’ll understand why Abersoch draws thousands to this scenic corner of Gwynedd each summer.

This coastal hideaway is also famed for its water sports, particularly paddleboarding. If fortune favours, visitors might even spot resident dolphins gliding through the transparent waters.

The sheltered bay is an ideal spot for both novice and seasoned paddleboarders, with the village hosting a variety of events and competitions throughout the year, drawing enthusiasts from across the UK.

Another major attraction of the town is its expansive sandy beach, previously dubbed one of the ‘best seaside destinations’ by the AA.

The AA described Abersoch Beach as a scenic Welsh spot: “This sandy beach, which is dog-friendly and also patrolled by lifeguards, takes the top spot. Two nearby tourist attractions include the Porth y Swnt Interpretation Centre and Nant Gwrtheyrn, home to the National Welsh Language and Heritage Centre.”

Close by is Harbour Beach, a stretch of sand on the River Soch between the harbour and Warren Beach. For those seeking a bit of adventure, Porth Ceiriad is a secluded beach that can be a bit tricky to locate.

Tucked away near the bustling Abersoch, Porth Ceiriad remains a hidden gem, much to the delight of those in the know.

North Wales Live has highlighted its deceptive proximity to Abersoch and the surrounding cliffs that shroud this secret beach in mystery.

The journey to uncover Porth Ceiriad has become something of local folklore, earning it the nickname “Porth Ceiriad Mystery Tour” due to the tales of tourists vanishing, misled by dodgy Satnav instructions and perplexing maps.

After soaking up the sun on Abersoch’s enchanting beaches, be sure to treat yourself at Two Islands, an artisan ice cream parlour recently crowned as one of Wales’ finest for frozen delights.

Since its opening in 2018, Two Islands has been the talk of the town among locals and holidaymakers alike, with the Sunday Times bestowing upon it their coveted recommendation. They said: “Don’t miss the raspberry ripple.”
