The weather may be good in the UK at the moment, but that’s likely going to change at some point, meaning that you’ll want to escape the pouring rain in favour of somewhere a little warmer.

If you’re looking for a budget holiday, then TikTok travel influencer @emsbudgettravels recommends that you go to Alicante in Spain. She did a breakdown of the costs for those interested, which included flights from her “tiny regional airport, Norwich”.

Em explained that she flew with Ryanair and got the best deal she thought she’d “ever seen” because they were “just £44 return and at really good times too”.

This meant that she was able to “maximise” her time away, and even meant that they were able to get to the airport just 45 minutes beforehand because the airport she flew from was so small.

Em also shared that it means she can walk to the airport after work if the flight is at 6.30pm “without having to take any extra time off”.

She then showed where they stayed in Alicante, which was an apartment booked through booking.com, and it was £57.90 each for the two nights.

She said: “It was really good because it had everything we needed. It was nice and clean and in the city centre”.

Em spent £50.30 when she was in Alicante, saying it was “really good” considering they “ate out for every meal”.

“For transport, I spent £6.62. I had an old airport bus card so I added 10 trips onto this so I’ve actually got some leftover on it,” she shared. Em also bought a magnet for £1.04, so in total, she spent £159.86.

She said: “I think that’s pretty good, especially considering the flights were from Norwich.

‘It just goes to show that you can still sometimes find really good deals from smaller regional airports, not just London”.

In the comments, someone ELSE sang Alicante’s praises, writing: “Alicante is lovely!! beach, castle, cobbled streets and a nice marina”.

Why should you visit Alicante?

Alicante is a beautiful coastal city in southeastern Spain, located in the Valencian Community along the Mediterranean Sea. It is known for its unique combination of history, stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and thriving gastronomy. Here are some reasons why Alicante is a great destination:

1. Beautiful Beaches

  • Alicante is home to some of the best beaches in Spain, with crystal-clear waters and soft golden sand. Popular ones include:

  • Playa del Postiguet (Postiguet Beach): Situated near the city centre, it offers great amenities and is perfect for relaxing or swimming.

  • Playa de San Juan: A longer stretch of beach ideal for families and water sports.

  • Cala de la Granadella and small hidden coves nearby: For a more tranquil experience.

2. Santa Bárbara Castle

  • Perched on top of Mount Benacantil, this historic fortress offers panoramic views of Alicante and the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the largest medieval fortresses in Spain and a must-visit site for history enthusiasts.

3. Perfect Climate

  • Alicante boasts over 300 days of sunshine per year with a mild Mediterranean climate, making it a year-round destination. Summers are warm and lively, while winters are mild and pleasant.

4. Charming Old Town (El Barrio)

  • Alicante’s Old Town, also known as El Barrio, is full of narrow, colourful streets, lively plazas, quaint restaurants, and bars. It’s a wonderful place to explore traditional Spanish architecture and enjoy the local nightlife.

5. Exquisite Gastronomy

  • Alicante is a food lover’s paradise. The region is known for its paella (particularly seafood and rice dishes like arroz a la banda) and other Mediterranean cuisine. Don’t miss out on turrón de Alicante, a traditional almond nougat.

6. Explanada de España

  • This stunning seaside promenade, lined with palm trees and a striking mosaic floor, is one of the most iconic landmarks in Alicante. It’s perfect for a stroll, people-watching, or relaxing at a café while enjoying sea views.

7. Tabarca Island

  • Located a short boat ride from Alicante, Tabarca Island is a stunning, protected marine reserve. It’s ideal for snorkelling, swimming in crystal-clear waters, and enjoying fresh seafood.

8. Vibrant Nightlife

  • Alicante has a buzzing nightlife, with numerous bars, clubs, and live music venues. From the traditional taverns in El Barrio to modern beachside lounges, there’s something for everyone.

9. Rich History and Culture

  • Alicante has a fascinating historical and cultural heritage, reflected in its museums (such as the Archaeological Museum of Alicante – MARQ), churches, and traditional festivals. The most famous festival is Las Hogueras de San Juan, celebrated in June with bonfires, parades, music, and fireworks.

10. Proximity to Other Attractions

  • Alicante is well located for exploring other parts of the Costa Blanca. Nearby destinations like Benidorm, Calpe, and Altea are easily accessible and offer more stunning beaches and picturesque towns. Alicante is also a hub for exploring the inland mountainous areas, historic villages, and vineyards.

11. Relaxed Atmosphere

12. Affordability

  • Compared to other popular destinations in Europe, Alicante offers excellent value for money in terms of food, accommodations, and activities, making it a great option for budget travellers.
