A stunning island renowned for its wild landscapes, towering peaks, and breathtaking coastline has earned the title of Europe’s ‘mini Caribbean’. Corsica, frequently called the “Island of Beauty”, boasts a fascinating heritage that merges French and Italian cultures. It’s also famous for being Napoleon Bonaparte’s birthplace, and it’s just over two hours away from the UK by plane.

Holidaymakers on TripAdvisor’s forum have drawn comparisons between it and Caribbean destinations. One visitor penned: “Beaches can only be compared to the Caribbean – white sand, turquoise water – excellent snorkelling – lots of water sports if you want them – and lots of deserted beaches if you don’t.”

Another remarked: “It has gorgeous yellow sandy beaches and endless trees backing onto the beaches. It is definitely the nearest place to a paradise island that I have been to in Europe.”

Corsica stands as the Mediterranean’s fourth-largest island and showcases varied terrain, from soaring peaks to unspoilt shores, reports The Express.

Monte Cinto, its highest summit, towers at 2,706 metres (8,878 feet).

The island also hosts the GR20 walking route, amongst Europe’s most demanding trails.

This destination attracts countless tourists with its spectacular beauty, showcasing towering cliffs, pristine sandy coastlines, crystal-clear seas, and heritage settlements including Ajaccio (the capital) and Bonifacio.

Guests can enjoy activities such as hiking, yachting, and discovering timeless hamlets. One of Corsica’s most stunning and secluded beaches, nestled in the Desert des Agriates, is a haven for those seeking peace and quiet.

Accessible only by boat or 4×4, its pristine white sands and crystal-clear waters are a magnet for peace-seekers.

Visitors can enjoy the unique tastes of Corsica at local markets such as the one in Ajaccio, where they can find regional delicacies like brocciu cheese, figatellu sausage, Corsican honey, and chestnut-based products.

The island also boasts several superb wine regions. The Patrimonio region being particularly renowned for its wines, and many vineyards offer tours and tastings.
