Why wait for the summer holidays when a dreamy paradise island with hardly any tourists could be the perfect place to visit – and doesn’t require lengthy flight times.

Golden beaches with placid homes stand on its sandy ochre canvas, surrounded by a stunning turquoise sea lapping against its shorelines awaits you here.

Think bike rides on unpaved streets, dramatic volcanoes, breathtaking sunsets and endless outdoor activities, and you’ll get La Graciosa.

This Spanish region has been described as one of the last places in Europe with no asphalted roads and one of the least explored and peaceful of the Canary Islands.

Best of all, there’s a significant lack of heaving crowds in March with glorious temperatures of 22C, making it a sun-drenched getaway you’ll remember for years.

La Graciosa is a volcanic island in the Canary Islands of Spain, that’s found roughly 1.2 miles north of Lanzarote across the Strait of El Río.

Peacefulness would be the word best to describe La Graciosa thanks to its meagre 700 inhabitants that call this place home.

The eighth island of the Canaries, it’s one of the few European spots with unpaved streets offering quiet beaches allowing you to completely disconnect from the noise and rush of its busier neighbouring regions.

This treasured land waiting to be explored is entirely protected, providing a natural habitat for countless marine birds which form part of the Chinijo Archipelago Natural Park – the largest marine reserve in Europe.

La Graciosa is a walkers dream spot thanks to the island being relatively small and flat.

Here, you can take in the endless sights all on offer, either by foot or on a bike, with the island’s four cycling routes which cross it.

In fact, La Graciosa is ideal for the biking enthusiasts, with trails leading to the most hidden corners of this region passing along its exotic landscape.

The island is a volcanic massif that’s shaped by molten ash and lava adding to its dramatic topography.

As for activities to be enjoyed in the glorious sunshine, La Graciosa has it all including exhilarating boat trips, diving, jeep tours and even a visit to Chinijo Museum in Caleta de Sebo, all coming in highly recommended.

Diving here is a real experience like no other thanks to its abundant caves and tunnels waiting to be explored with the chance to spot the island’s horse mackerels, snorers, striped burritos, black moray eels or the endemic Canarian lobsters.

La Graciosa is home to an array of white sandy beaches, including Playa de la Cocina, which is found at the foot of the Montaña Amarilla volcano.

To reach this island gem you will need to take a ferry from Lanzarote with several crossings per day that take about 25 minutes.
