With spring well underway and summer just around the corner, many will be hoping to jet off abroad to see the sights, catch some rays and take a break from real life. For those still undecided about their destination, Agadir, in Morocco, should be on your shortlist.

This North African gem is the most visited city in southern Morocco, boasts a prime coastal location and is renowned for its stunning and well-maintained beaches. Despite its North African setting, Agadir’s palm tree-lined boulevards and beachfront bars lend it a Western-resort feel, making it a popular choice for winter sun seekers. The city’s modern infrastructure is largely due to a devastating earthquake in 1960, which led to much of Agadir being rebuilt using seismic-resistant construction methods, reports Chronicle Live.

Visitors to Agadir can enjoy a range of activities, from camel riding to beach buggy rentals. For a more relaxed experience, the Suq al-Had market is worth a visit, or take a leisurely 20-minute stroll up to the ruins of the Agadir Kasbah for panoramic city views and a break from the beach.

Agadir’s culinary scene is a tantalising fusion of Arab and Mediterranean flavours, boasting ‘rich, aromatic spice combinations’. The cuisine heavily features fruits like apricots and olives, with lamb being the star ingredient in most dishes.

The Pita Bar, a gourmet destination for authentic and delicious pitas, with a unique fusion of Mediterranean and Moroccan flavors. It features perfectly grilled meats and flavorful homemade sauces in the heart of Agadir.

Restaurant Rafiq, a very authentic Moroccan food experience, is also worth a try, with sublime lamb dishes that are said to be ‘gorgeously flavoured’. Reviews also point out the friendly nature and helpfulness of the staff.

The city also offers a plethora of experiences that are hailed as ‘must-do’ on Tripadvisor. These include a thrilling desert quad bike safari, swimming excursions to Paradise Valley and the Atlas Mountains, and a visit to the nearby Crocoparc zoo.

For those seeking tranquillity, traditional hammams offer relaxing massages, day trips to Marrakesh are available, or one can embark on a full-day boat trip complete with fishing and lunch against the backdrop of the stunning Atlantic Ocean.

The Moroccan city is also a surfer’s paradise, attracting enthusiasts from around the globe. This comes as no surprise given the miles of pristine beaches that make Agadir a popular destination.

There’s so much more to discover about Agadir, and with flights available from just £37 (at the time of writing), it could be your perfect sunny getaway this summer. For more information, head over to the Agadir, Morocco section on the Tripadvisor website.
