Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have made a key decision in the wake of the latest Prince Andrew scandal. Buckingham Palace released a statement from Prince Andrew on Friday evening, revealing that the 65-year-old will no longer use his remaining titles and honours.
The King’s younger brother will retain his princely title, as is his birthright as the son of a monarch, and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will no longer use the Duchess of York title. The decision comes after his friendship with convicted paedophile sex offender Jeffrey Epstein returned to the headlines, as well as his association with an alleged Chinese spy.
Andrew revealed in his statement that his decision came after close consultation with King Charles.
Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 35, will remain unaffected by their father’s decision, but according to a royal expert, they will continue to stand by their parents.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond says that she feels that Andrew’s two daughters must wholeheartedly believe in his innocence.
Speaking to the Mirror, she said: “Whatever else you might think about Andrew and Sarah, they are brilliant parents and have brought up two very decent young women.
“They will remain Princesses and be welcome at events with the rest of the Royal Family, such as Christmas at Sandringham.”
Explaining further, she added: “However, they are extremely close to their parents and have stayed loyal through thick and thin.
“I’m sure they’ll be supporting Andrew and Sarah through this latest crisis, just as they have been there for them in the past.”
She then explained why Beatrice and Eugenie will stand by their parents, adding: “They must believe their father’s protestations of innocence… otherwise they surely couldn’t live with themselves.”
