Coby Bryant’s injury isn’t as bad as once feared after an emotional scene, which saw the Bears safety carted off the field in training camp.

He will miss just eight to 10 weeks with a hyperextended left knee, bone bruise and small fracture, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Bryant, who is expected back this season with Week 1 still five weeks away, went down after a one-on-one drill rep with tight end Cole Kmet and was emotional after being carted off the field.

The Cincinnati product’s emotions had Bears fans fearing the worst for their marquee free agent signing. His teammates weren’t worried about it after practice, however.

“It always sucks to see,” tight end Colston Loveland said of Bryant’s injury. “That’s part of it. You know, he’s tough, he’s a dog. He’s going to be fine.”

Bryant signed a three-year, $40 million contract with the Bears this offseason in a secondary overhaul after Kevin Byard, Jaquan Brisker, Nahshon Wright, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Jonathan Owens all went elsewhere.

Bryant spent the last four seasons with the Seahawks, where he recorded 227 tackles, seven interceptions, and seven forced fumbles on his way to a Super Bowl win last season.

Once healthy, he’ll join rookie Dillon Thieneman, who the Bears took in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft in an attempt to get faster in the secondary.

For now, it appears defensive back Cam Lewis will shift to safety after starting training camp at nickel corner to fill in for an injured Kyler Gordon.

Lewis is another new arrival in the secondary for the Bears, joining this offseason after six years with the Bills.

Gordon and Bears backup safety Elijah Hicks are both on the physically unable to perform list, leaving Chicago with limited options going forward.

Gervarrius Owens, Skyler Thomas and Anthony Johnson Jr. are also on the roster as safeties, but none of played a single NFL snap before.
