A stunning beach in the south of France beloved by celebrities and known for its white sand has been named one of the best for those looking for a sunny location with plenty of room to stretch out. Plage de Pampelonne features on Wizz Air’s list of the least overcrowded beaches this April, following analysis of more than 50 European countries.
The airline estimated how much space each beach offers per person and combined this data with temperatures for this Easter holiday to give each destination an overall score out of 50. The beach was given a score of 32.3 and came in at third place. It is the longest beach in the Saint Tropez area, stretching more than 5km in length and is known for its white sands and beautiful blue water. The beach, which is actually in the village of Ramatuelle rather than Saint Tropez itself, is divided into different areas, some open to the public and others designated for a range of beach clubs.
These allow you to hire sun loungers and parasols, and enjoy the food and drink options they have to offer visitors.
Clubs that are particularly popular include Club 55 and Nikki Beach – here, you will find a mix of locals, tourists, and celebrities.
While the beach is known for being busy in the summer months, in September and spring, the weather is still glorious but there is more space.
Pampelonne has public showers, toilets and lifeguards on duty from mid-June to mid-September. For those wanting to take public transport, there is a bus service that runs from central Saint Tropez to the beach and it takes just 15 minutes. Meanwhile, paid parking is also available.
During the high season, the beach is cleaned by “plagistes” – beach attendants – and there is also a range of watersports on offer, including jet skiing, windsurfing, and paddle boarding.
The only beaches on Wizz Air’s list that ranked above Pampelonne were Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, with a score of 36.7; and Playa d’en Bossa in Ibiza, Spain, which received the same score.
In fourth and fifth place were Praia de Falesia in the Algarve, Portugal, and Konyaaltı Plajları, in Antalya, Turkey.
Visitors have praised the beach’s “white sand, turquoise water and gentle sea entrance”, and it has been dubbed the “beach of all beaches in the St Tropez area” by tourists on TripAdvisor.
Others discussed the beautiful views, yachts in front of the beach, and wide variety of beach bars and food on offer.
