The BBC has announced that they have acquired the US legal drama series Suits, which stars Meghan Markle in one of its leading roles, along with several other new shows.
The broadcaster also shared the exciting news that they would be welcoming mockumentary St. Denis Medical and the series continuation of the hit Best Man films, The Best Man: The Final Chapters to BBC iPlayer and their TV channels.
It comes just days after reports of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex being downgraded on the Royal Family’s official website.
Meghan and Prince Harry, who stepped down as working royals four years ago, previously had their own lengthy biography pages on the website.
However, now their information pages have been dramatically condensed, which has been interpreted by some to be a “snub”.
American legal show Suits follows college dropout Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who uses his photographic memory to talk his way into a job as an associate working for successful lawyer Harvey Spector (Gabriel Macht).
Together they win lawsuits and close cases, while at the same time hiding the fact that Mike never went to law school.
The cast also includes Meghan, who plays Mike’s love interest and legal colleague Rachel Zane.
Other cast members include Gina Torres (Westworld), Sarah Rafferty (Brothers & Sisters), Rick Hoffman (Billions) and Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy).
Head of BBC Programme Acquisition Sue Deeks said: “This is a really exciting and enjoyable trio of star-studded series: the hotly-anticipated comedy, St. Denis Medical, the sassy, romantic comedy-drama, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, and the smart and stylish legal drama, Suits.
“We couldn’t be more delighted to bring them all to BBC viewers,” she added.
Suits is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and is created and executive-produced by Aaron Korsh. Doug Liman, David Bartis and Gene Klein of Hypnotic also serve as executive producers.
While Meghan left the series after seven seasons — and the show’s finale aired in 2019 — Suits has seen huge viewing figures after it was made available to stream on Netflix last summer.
