A comedy film that has been branded a “favourite” with fans is now available to stream for free.

Quiz Lady, featuring Grey’s Anatomy favourite Sandra Oh and comedian Awkwafina, tells the comical tale of distant siblings Jenny and Anne who unite to settle their mum’s gambling debts. Embarking on a quest for quick cash, they aim to find money by conquering a game show.

Initially released in 2023, the film won over audiences instantly. After an exclusive period on Disney+, it’s now accessible for free on BBC iPlayer.

An synopsis states: “A game show-obsessed young woman and her estranged train wreck of a sister must work together to help cover their mother’s gambling debts. Together, they set out on a wild, cross-country trek to get the cash the only way they know – by becoming bona fide game show champions.”

Renowned for her stint on the American medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, Sandra Oh portrays Jenny, alongside actress and comedian Awkwafina as Anne Yum. It also includes Will Ferrell in the role of Terry McTeer, reports Surrey Live.

Other key players include Holland Taylor as Francine and Jason Schwartzman portraying Ron Heacock.

The rave reviews are flooding in, with one viewer posting on Rotten Tomatoes: “Funniest movie we’ve seen in a long, long, long time! Appreciated the great ending! Definitely a feel-good movie, highly recommended!”.

While another confessed: “Hilarious and well paced from beginning to end. All of the characters (definitely including Mr. Linguini) are unique and well formed.”

A Google Reviews critic wrote: “In the realm of heartwarming comedies, “Quiz Lady” stands out as a shining star, a delightful blend of laughter, sisterhood, and self-discovery that will leave you grinning from ear to ear.”

Another review noted: “If you’re looking for a heartwarming, amusing, uplifting movie that involves the protagonist’s subtle shift towards self discovery whilst you lay in the comforts of your blanket, this movie is it.”

A viewer went on to declare it their new “favourite” expressing: “This is easily my new favorite movie, it was surprisingly uplifting and had the same balanced comedy found in ‘Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens’.”

The heartwarming ‘Quiz Lady’ film first made its debut via Hulu in the US and subsequently landed on other streaming platforms in 2023. It bagged an Emmy award for Outstanding Television Movie and is directed by Jessica Yu, renowned for her work in ‘This Is Us’ and ‘Only Murders in the Building’.

Quiz Lady is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
