A San Francisco home with a gruesome past is back on the market — with bids already nearing $1 million.

The SoMa property was where homeowner Brian Egg’s torso was discovered floating in a fish tank in 2018 after he mysteriously disappeared.

Now, eight years later, the boarded-up house at Clara and Fifth streets is headed to auction, with an estimated sale price of $1 million to $1.5 million and a current bid of $925,000.

The 3,600-square-foot property has sat largely empty since Egg’s death, becoming a magnet for squatters and homeless people. Neighbors have filed more than 100 complaints with the city over the property, ABC7 reported.

Egg’s neighbor Wilma Parker DePavloff told the outlet that he was a generous man who regularly helped people he met at a nearby dining hall.

“We know that he went to St. Anthony’s dining hall for lunch every day and he would bring home people with him because he had three bedrooms,” DePavloff said.

“He would say to me, this person I met at St. Anthony’s, he is a college grad, I don’t know why he is on the street.”

“’And he would let them stay to straighten up their lives,” DePavloff added.

But when Egg vanished, DePavloff noticed people she didn’t recognize coming and going from the home.

“They were nice looking, decent, clean young man bringing out buckets of water, and they were watering my plants and Brian’s and I said, Brian will be really thrilled when he gets back from his vacation because you’re watering the plants more than he would ever,” DePavloff shared.

“And they said ‘and we are watering yours too and I said, oh, thank you.’ They’re watering them with his blood, not with his blood, but they had what was left of him in a big fish tank, and they were trying to dissolve the body.”

The property is being auctioned after neighbors reported years of squatters, graffiti, and homelessness-related issues following the discovery of a man’s torso inside a fish tank at the home eight years ago. ABC 7

“They built a false wall over it [fish tank], which the police finally discovered,” DePavloff added.

Two people inside the home were initially arrested in connection with Egg’s killing, but prosecutors later withdrew the charges and called for further investigation. No one has been charged in the case.

Now the property itself is up for grabs.

Photos posted by the auction site show a boarded-up structure that has been allowed to deteriorate over the years. The listing states that the property has been permitted for demolition.
