If you own wooden furniture, you’ve probably experienced water stains under the glass or on the chairs. It presents itself as a dark, stubborn ring which doesn’t budge no matter how much you scrub it. They often occur if you’ve placed a glass or mug on the furniture without a coaster.
Luckily, a cleaning expert shared a surprising trick that will make those pesky stains disappear. Nigel Bearman from Daily Poppins said: “It can feel almost impossible to remove stains from wooden furniture, often leaving us scrambling for expensive cleaning products in a desperate attempt to save our favourite coffee table.
“But before you rush out and spend a fortune on fancy cleaners, take a peek in your kitchen cupboard.”
If you’ve got a jar or tube of mayonnaise in your cupboard or fridge, you could have the remedy for water stains.
If not, you can pick up a tube of mayonnaise for as little as 40p from supermarkets such as Lidl.
The expert said: “Mayonnaise contains two key ingredients that help to remove hard water stains – oil and egg yolks.
“The oil seeps into the wood, pushing out the trapped moisture that causes the hard water ring, whilst the natural fats in the egg yolk nourish and condition the surface, bringing back its original shine.”
Simply apply mayonnaise to the water stain, let it sit for an hour, and wipe it off.
The cleaning pro added: “So, next time you spot that dreaded water ring, don’t panic or reach for the pricey cleaners.
“Just grab the mayonnaise from your kitchen and let it work its magic.
“It’s a simple, budget-friendly fix that could save you a lot of time and stress.
“Your wooden furniture will look good and new in no time, and the best part is you won’t break the bank while doing it.”
This works on all types of wooden furniture, but be sure the weather is forecasted to be dry if you are planning on using it outside.
Also, be careful when placing the condiment on any wooden furniture with nooks and crannies, as it may be hard to get out.
