A cleaning expert has shared her top tip for banishing stains and odours from your bed – claiming the key to success is a common 65p ingredient you’re likely to already have in your cupboards.

Anna Louisa, who is a home content creator and author of Author of The 5 minute Clean Routine: Tips and Tricks for a Happy Home, took to TikTok to reveal exactly how it’s done in three simple steps. “Here’s how to give your bed spa treatment,” she declared in a caption.

Sharing footage of herself carrying out the task on her own bed, Anna Louisa began by sprinkling bicarbonate of soda over the mattress. She added that a few drops of essential oil are an optional addition – her personal favourite being that of lavender aroma.

In her second step, the mum-of-one suggested: “Leave for around 30 minutes so the bicarbonate of soda can deodorise the mattress and remove any moisture before vacuuming up.” Next, Anna Louisa set to work on “refreshing” her headboard, advising that warm water and a few drops of washing up liquid are required to do so.

“I use the pan lid hack for this as I find the cloth glides around the headboard much more easily,” she explained. Indeed, Anna Louisa could be seen wrapping a microfibre cloth around a glass lid and applying it firmly to the headboard.

Anna Louisa followed her advice up by revealing how often she believes you should be changing your bedding. “I like to change mine every Sunday to start a fresh week, but I’m going to hold my hands up, has there been a Sunday where I run out of time or just forget? Yep!” she revealed.

“But the majority of the time it’s weekly especially after hearing about what can be lurking in your mattress if you don’t wash them regularly enough!”

And continuing the the bedroom-theme, Anna Louisa also has a duvet cover hack she claims your “need to know”. This time applying the method in five steps, she began: “Lay your duvet cover inside out on the bed (opening at the bottom). [Then] lay your duvet on top lining up the corners.”

She proceeded to outline the technique: “Roll your duvet and cover from the top to the base of the bed. Take the bottom layer of the duvet cover up and over the duvet roll. Unroll towards the top of the bed and that’s it!”

Anna Louisa says her book “promises to show how your household and cleaning routines can become easy and efficient”. It contains more than 100 cleaning techniques for the home using tried and tested cleaning product combinations, and includes planner pages and lists to tick off as you go.
