As we approach that time of year when our vehicles become a breeding ground for foggy condensation, it can be incredibly frustrating to have to clear the dampness before setting off on your commute.

However, a simple trick shared by ND_home could revolutionise your morning routine. The clever hack, which has since gone viral on TikTok, involves using an everyday kitchen item to eliminate moisture from your windows.

By rubbing half a potato over the affected area, you can quickly and easily remove the condensation. Once dry, simply add a little water to the window and wipe it clean.

This straightforward method has already garnered more than 30,000 views on the video-sharing platform. One viewer commented: “So helpful. Great car hack.” Another added: “Really useful hack.” And a third chimed in with: “Genius car hack.”

Experts explain that the key to this trick is using a clean potato, so ensure to wash it first if it’s a bit grubby. If you’ve got an old spud that’s started to sprout, now’s the perfect time to put it to good use.

Simply use the flat side to rub along the window, making sure to cover the entire area. This method should effectively clean the window and create a barrier that prevents condensation.

If you notice any starchy streaks, simply wipe them off promptly. Also, if you’re planning to treat all your vehicle’s windows, you might need to use both halves of the potato.

After application, let it dry completely without interference. Once the potato juice has dried, your windows should remain fog-free. This is due to the starch in the potato forming a shield between the glass and the air.
