A cleaning fan has revealed a number of hacks that you might not know about, including how to dispel any unwanted odours from your fridge. With a varying range of foodstuffs stocked up in our fridges, many scents can become muddled – and if left to go off, turn unpleasant.

To combat unwanted smells emanating from the fridge, cleaning influencer Georgia shared a simple trick that uses just one natural ingredient. In a TikTok video from this week, Georgia explained that baking soda is your best answer. Simply add a liberal amount of baking soda to a bowl and place it in the fridge.

She said: “Now to remove any nasty odours from your fridge, use bicarbonate of soda and it’ll absorb all that horrible smell.”

Baking soda has been touted as one of the best natural remedies for cleaning various items in your home, but it also works as a powerful deodoriser.

Baking soda, as an alkaline substance, helps to eliminate any bad or unwanted smells by neutralising acidic odours.

This is done through a chemical reaction, changing the pH level of the odour and releasing less smelly compounds.

As a natural deodoriser, baking soda works the same as many air fresheners.

KitchenAid did point out that depending on what is causing the smell, it may take up to three days to remove the odour completely.

Its experts also explained that you can replenish the baking soda as and when needed.

Martha Stewart also recommended a number of other ingredients which can help get rid of bad smells, including activated charcoal, vinegar, lemons, and coffee grounds.

Georgia’s video has been viewed over a massive 270,900 times, receiving 23,200 likes and 41 comments. Lynzie said: “Thank you for the hacks! Can’t wait to try.”

Katie wrote: “Oooo wow I’m gonna try some of these.”
