Banish air fryer grease in 15 minutes with 2 ingredients and no scrubbing

Air fryers have become a kitchen essential, but if not cleaned properly or regularly, they can lead to issues. The design of the air fryer makes it easy for food particles, grease and oils to accumulate.

If left unchecked, this grime can build up and impact the appliance’s performance over time, leading to subpar or unpleasant meals. If your air fryer is in need of a deep clean, one TikToker has shared a straightforward method using just two items, promising gleaming results in minutes without the need for strenuous scrubbing. Here’s what you need to do.

Before you start cleaning, ensure all baskets are removed from the appliance. Then, liberally sprinkle baking soda over the basket.

Baking soda is effective at tackling any build-up of grease and grime. Follow this by drizzling washing up liquid over the baking soda.

Next, TikToker Ida boils a kettle of water which she then pours over the air fryer baskets. The hot water will react with the baking soda and washing up liquid, helping to dislodge stubborn food particles.

Allow the solution to soak for 15 minutes. After the soaking period, discard the dirty water and rinse away any remaining residue with more water.

All the grime should have loosened from the basket and be easily rinsed down the sink.

Baking soda has been hailed as a top-notch cleaning agent, thanks to its mildly abrasive texture that cuts through grime with ease. Its gritty nature is perfect for dislodging stubborn dirt and food remnants, simplifying the scrubbing process.

Vanguard Cleaning highlights another benefit of baking soda: its alkaline properties make it an excellent odour neutraliser, particularly effective at tackling lingering food smells in air fryers.

When combined with washing-up liquid, the concoction gains additional surfactants, which are adept at encircling and lifting grease and dirt from surfaces.

Not only does baking soda clean, but it also acts as a natural deodoriser, ensuring any persistent scents are eradicated following a deep clean.

Dr Oetker delves into the science behind baking soda’s odour-eliminating prowess, stating: “Most nasty smells in the air contain some sort of acid. As an alkali, baking soda reacts with those acids and neutralises them.”
