Banana flapjacks are the 'ultimate healthy snack' at only 200 calories per bar – recipe

Trying to lose weight and stay healthy can be a real challenge, especially if you’ve got a sweet tooth.

While snacking on fruit and vegetables is the healthier option, it’s not always the most satisfying.

Rather than reaching for a chocolate bar, why don’t you try making a healthy flapjack instead?

Tesco has shared their healthy banana flapjack recipe that contains just 202 calories per bar.

The retailer described the sweet treat as “the ultimate healthy snack” that can be prepared in just over half an hour.

The tahini gives these flapjacks a decadent creaminess while the honey adds natural sweetness.

How to make banana flapjacks:

Ingredients:

  • One ripe banana
  • Two tbsp coconut oil
  • Three tbsp tahini
  • 60g runny honey
  • One tsp cinnamon
  • 45g mixed seeds (such as pumpkin, sesame and sunflower)
  • 100g rolled oats (use gluten-free oats to make recipe gluten-free)
  • 50g sour cherries
  • Two tbsp chia seeds
  • 50g pistachios

Method:

1. Firstly, pre-heat the oven to gas 6, 200°C, fan 180°C and ensure it’s piping hot.

2. Mash the bananas in a bowl using a fork until they form a smooth paste.

3. Next, melt the coconut oil in a saucepan over low heat on the hob. Once melted, remove it from the heat and add the tahini and honey.

4. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl with a pinch of salt before adding the banana paste and the wet ingredients (honey, oil and tahini mixture).

5. Ensure the batter is cool enough to touch before pressing it into a lined 16cm x 16cm tin.

6. Bake the flapjacks for 25 minutes or until they look firm and golden in colour.

7. Leave the flapjacks to cool down in the tin before slicing them into 12 bars.

These flapjacks contain 10g of fat, 24.7g of carbohydrate and 4.9g of protein.

The sour cherries, pistachios, cinnamon and mixed seeds can be substituted for other nuts, spices and dried fruits.
