Baked beans will taste better and won’t go mushy if you do 1 thing

If you always find yourself eating mushy beans, it can ruin your meal. But there’s an easy solution which will help to elevate your meal.

Whether it’s baked beans, black beans, butter beans or cannoli beans, there’s one mistake you’re making which could be ruining your dinner. Experts say if you’re using canned beans, there’s one crucial mistake you could be making and one simple fix.

Beans are a great addition to many meals, from beans on toast to stews, curries or a chilli – they’re a healthy and nutritious component to add to your meal plan for the week.

But Voyo Eats says overcooking them is a common mistake which leads them to be mushy and disappointing.

It says the key to making sure your beans don’t turn mushy is all in the cooking time.

Voyo Eats says: “Canned beans are pre-cooked, so they’re more susceptible to becoming mushy when heated again.

“To avoid this, add canned beans to your dish at the end of cooking and heat them just enough to warm through.

“Also, be gentle when stirring, as canned beans break apart more easily than dried beans.

“If you’re baking with canned beans, it’s best to reduce the cooking time and temperature slightly to prevent them from over-softening.”

Voyo Eats explains why your beans turn mushy – and says it’s a common problem people cooking at home face.

It says beans need precise cooking times and temperatures to maintain their shape. If they simmer for too long or in too much liquid, they tend to break down and get soft.

High heat can also cause them to overcook quickly, turning them from firm to mushy in no time, the experts add.

It’s crucial to choose the right cooking method which can make a big difference to your beans’ texture.

If you choose to slow cook at a low temperature, this can help the beans cook more evenly and maintain a firmer bite.

By following this easy tip, you can ensure you won’t be left disappointed again with soggy overcooked beans.
