Baked beans will be ‘much tastier’ if you add 1 unusual ingredient | UK | News

A popular YouTube foodie recommends adding five surprising ingredients to baked beans to make them “much tastier”. The man, Jim, shares cooking hacks and recipes on his The West Country Kitchen channel, which boasts 10.6k subscribers.

The content creator who describes himself as an “extremely passionate cook with a camera”, revealed his take on the popular breakfast staple, and decided against the customary knob of butter or grated cheddar hungry Britons often add to it. In the video, he instead goes for chilli flakes, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce and, in an unusual twist, apple cider vinegar to heighten the flavours. To make it, he adds a “little dash of extra virgin olive oil” to the saucepan and a small sprinkling of chilli flakes before pouring in the baked beans.

“Start to heat them through, and we go in with a nice pinch of salt, some freshly-ground black pepper”, Jim continues.

He then adds a teaspoon of pink paprika, around a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar as well as a small dash of Worcestershire sauce before mixing it through.

The sauce is then reduced down until it’s “nice, thick, rich, and sticky”.

Jim says the recipe is quick and easy, but the result is a “much, much tastier baked bean”.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a simple way to make your baked beans perfect for colder evenings, Simply Recipes says cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger are “excellent choices for those seeking gentle warmth”.

“These spices add depth without overwhelming the dish, making them ideal for a comforting, cozy meal,” the site adds.

“They work particularly well when combined with sweeteners like honey or brown sugar.”

Cinnamon also pairs well with with tomato-based sauces beans are normally sold in.
