Baked beans can be made extra delicious when you add one seasoning that isn’t salt or pepper. Baked beans are a staple in British homes, often eaten for breakfast and lunch, along with toast for a full English fry-up. Most tins of baked beans, which you can get in the supermarket for as little as 25p, come in a sweet tomato sauce. Simply heating them on the hob and having them with buttered toast is an easy yet super tasty favourite for many Brits.
But some people like to go the extra step when it comes to preparing their baked beans. For some people, this means adding salt and pepper. For others, it means adding some chilli powder to give it a little bit of spice. And for a few, adding things like Worcestershire sauce is a great way to really make your baked beans taste amazing. However, there is one seasoning that people swear by, one you may not have considered before.
For some people, adding cumin to baked beans is the best way to elevate the flavour of them. According to the folks at Life Diet Health, cumin is a great extra addition to baked beans.
Many people seem to be in agreement. One Reddit user asked British people what they like to add to their baked beans and people responded with a variety of answers, with some listing cumin as a go-to.
“Turmeric, coriander, cumin, chilli, paprika, possibly garam masala too,” said one user. Another shared: “I once added a little cumin, pepper, paprika, chilli powder, mustard powder and honey. They were excellent.”
A third said: “Cumin baked beans are pretty good.”
While most people suggested simply adding ground cumin to the pot as the baked beans are heating up, one Reddit user said that they add cumin seeds.
Another shared: “I doctor up canned beans by adding cumin, chilli powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne and brown sugar.”
Many have said that adding cumin to baked beans has given the dish a warm and earthy flavour.
Others made quite surprising suggestions, such as adding curry powder to baked beans. Meanwhile, a common suggestion for Reddit users was paprika.
