There’s a certain pleasure in seeing clean, gleaming tiles with immaculate white grout. However, grout can lose its shine over time due to stains and discolouration as dirt particles and soil residue seep into its microscopic pores. These minute particles may seem insignificant on their own, but together they form a grimy layer that gradually darkens the grout.
In bathrooms, soap scum is a notorious culprit for grout discolouration. It develops when the fats and minerals in soap mix with water and settle onto the grout lines.
Moreover, the porous nature of grout makes it an ideal breeding ground for mould and mildew.
In humid areas like bathrooms and kitchens where moisture persists, these fungi find a hospitable environment. As they proliferate, they create a black or dark greenish tint, tarnishing the grout lines and bringing with them a musty, damp odour, reports the Express.
To restore the brightness of grout, Mrs Hinch fan Manju Pandya praised the Flash Bicarbonate of Soda Cleaning Spray, which was previously suggested to her for removing pillow stains.
She shared: “Hi, I’ve seen so many posts regarding whitening of grout, so I decided to use my newfound product Flash with Bicarb (recommended by someone on here for my stained pillows) to see if that would work on my fireplace.
“Well, the results speak for themselves. Im impressed. I literally sprayed it on, left it for three minutes, and wiped. No chemical smells, which is an added bonus.”
Baking soda, the primary ingredient in this cleaning spray, serves as a safe whitener, deodoriser and all-purpose cleaner, making it an efficient natural grout cleaner.
Given its mild abrasive properties, baking soda provides additional cleaning power for grout lines without risking tile damage.
This Flash spray, devoid of added preservatives, bleach and ammonia, is formulated to tackle stubborn stains on various surfaces.
If this product doesn’t yield satisfactory results, households might consider creating a homemade grout cleaner using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide, a natural substitute for bleach, can effectively brighten grout. For enhanced whitening, leave it on for 20 minutes.
