You can make delicious bacon with one extra ingredient, a cooking expert has revealed. Bacon is a favourite for many Brits and it is eaten regularly by families and households around the country. This simple meat product makes its way into many meals, from a full English breakfast to sandwiches to burgers to pastas and even pizzas. That means that there are many different ways to cook it, depending on how you’re enjoying it.
While many people enjoy bacon on its own, there are a number of ingredients you can add while cooking to enhance the flavour. One of them, one expert has said, is roasted garlic. Culinary Producer at The Kitchen, Kelli Foster, shared her tips for cookig bacon, explaining the five ways you can season bacon with spices. Depending on how you plan to use your bacon, this hack could be something to try the next time you are cooking it. When it comes to using roasted garlic, Kelli cooked her bacon in an oven, rather than on a pan.
“Even though it doesn’t necessarily come with a mild flavor, bacon is a total blank canvas,” she explains, before revealing the five ways she likes to spice up her bacon.
Listing roasted garlic as one option, she admits: “The only thing better than a few super-crisp strips of bacon is when they’re coated, front and back, with sweet roasted garlic.” To start off, she preheats her oven to 400F, which is around 204C.
Having already roasted her garlic in the oven until it was soft, she squeezes it into a bowl and mashes it all together to create the coating. Meanwhile, she lays out her bacon on a foil-topped baking tray and cooks it for between 15 and 20 minutes. It will be ready to take out when the fat is rendered and the bacon has crisped.
Then, she removes the bacon from the oven and it’s time to coat it. But first, you need to drain the fat. You then use a brush to spread the garlic over the strips of bacon on both sides.
It is then cooked for another five minutes. Once that is done, she transfers it to a wire rack to let it cool. Garlic is among the many ingredients that this foodie expert recommends adding to bacon.
Another one of her recommendations is to add sriracha, honey and sesame seeds to bacon. She also advises bacon lovers to try using balsamic vinegar, black pepper and brown sugar when making this popular food.
