For the Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy, this goes against its ‘socialist utopia’. During the Association of British Travel Agents’ annual conference – held on the Spanish island of Mallorca – he said tourism bosses want rich holidaymakers only, calling it “absolutely disgraceful”. Referring to the government’s ads “Think you know Spain? Think agan”, he said: “When you boil down what they’ve said, ‘we want a different type of customer’. They basically want rich people, which doesn’t fit given Spain is supposed to…

Director Max Webster must be congratulated on achieving the impossible. He has incontrovertibly wrecked the greatest comedy in the English language by stamping on Wilde’s wit with pink leather jackboots and supplanting high comedy and sparkling dialogue with panto vulgarity. It has transferred from the National Theatre with a new cast and the big draw here is Stephen Fry’s drag act as Lady Bracknell. Fry is not the only man to play Bracknell – David Suchet, Geoffrey Rush and Giles Brandreth among others got there before him – but it’s still a kick in the face of every veteran actress waiting…

There is so much that is pleasing in Robert Hastie’s production that it feels churlish to deny its success as a whole. Yet there is something missing in this state of Denmark. The intriguing cast includes Asian actor Hiran Abeysekera as the gloomy Dane, Francesca Mills as Ophelia and Tessa Wang as Horatio. Diversity is well to the fore and that is not the problem. Mills was born with achondroplasia which hasn’t stopped her from blazing a trail on stage and television. Indeed, she is one of the main reasons to see this Hamlet, so affecting is her Ophelia. The real surprise…
