Police have launched a manhunt after a car was deliberately driven at a serving officer in what detectives are treating as attempted murder. The attack happened at around 1.20am on Monday 28 July, after officers responded to an earlier call for help from a member of the public on Herries Avenue, Dumfries.
A silver Subaru Forester was driven at a male officer, who was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. He remains in a stable condition. The car was later discovered abandoned near Catherine Field Road. The suspect is described as male, slim to medium build, with dark hair cut short at the sides. He was wearing a grey top, grey trousers and trainers.
Detective Inspector Scott Wilson said: “Our thoughts are with the officer, his family and colleagues at this time. We will continue to offer them all the necessary support.
“This incident is being treated as attempted murder, and we will use all tools at our disposal to trace the person responsible.
“I am asking anyone who may have seen the Subaru driving around the area around that time on Monday and in the few days before the incident to get in touch.
“Similarly, anyone in the area at the time with dashcam footage should contact us.”
