Asda is rolling out a major change to its cafes in more than 180 UK stores before November.
The supermarket chain has announced a £10 million “refresh” program that will see its in-store cafes undergo a revamp to provide customers a “new and improved” experience. Asda says the project, led by partner Compass, will begin this month and is expected to be completed by the end of October. The project will see the cafes upgraded to give them a fresh new look and feel, including the introduction of new digital menu screens and table ordering service, alongside a manned till.
The cafe menu will feature a selection of new dishes including smashed avocado on toast, katsu chicken curry, topped salad bowls, wraps and a new sharing range which includes nachos and loaded fries.
Asda’s popular pizzas are also set to become part of the new cafe menu with customers given the option of a full 12 inch pizza or individual slices from flavours including pepperoni, American sizzler, spicy chicken, meat feast, ham and mushroom, veggie supreme and the classic margherita.
These new items will feature alongside old favourites such as a full English breakfast, fish and chips, lasagne, jacket potatoes and burger and chips.
The drinks menu is also set to be expanded with classics including american, latta, mocha and cappuccino to be accompanied by new flavoured iced coffees, plus a selection of cakes.
Asda is keeping its ‘Kids Eat for £1’ café meal deals in place with menu items including penne pasta with Meatballs, a vegan hidden veg pasta meal, fish fingers, chicken nuggets and an all-day breakfast.
Ian McEvans, Vice President of Commercial Food at Asda, said: “Cafés are an important part of the shopping experience for many of our customers, and this significant investment alongside allows us to bring a new look and feel, as well as making improvements to the service and a refresh of the menu.
“We have continued to demonstrate our commitment to our cafés over the years with popular deals like the Winter Warmer and Kids Eat for £1 meal deals, and this investment marks another exciting milestone moment for us on our journey and underpins our continued commitment to ensuring Asda is set up for long term success at the heart of communities.”
