Arsenal’s pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres is at risk of ‘imminent collapse’ with little sign of a positive resolution, according to reports in Portugal. Talks at club level have been ongoing for a number of weeks but a full agreement is yet to be struck. Personal terms are not expected to be a problem but an impasse in negotiations with Sporting could see the move go up in flames.
They are thought to be playing hardball in discussions with Arsenal over the value of the proposed deal. Sporting have set a non-negotiable asking price of £60.3million up front and £8.6m in add-ons. The latest offer from Arsenal is believed to have fallen short of those demands and a fresh twist has reportedly placed the switch in serious doubt.
Negotiators have not spoken for around three days, according to A Bola, with Arsenal yet to submit an improved proposal. Senior figures believe the collapse of the deal is ‘imminent’ because Sporting are refusing to budge from their current position.
Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta reportedly arrived in Portugal over the weekend in a desperate attempt to find a breakthrough. However, the 53-year-old is said to have departed on Monday without making any sort of progress.
