Despite overseeing a fourth consecutive defeat, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot remained composed and relaxed in the dressing room after being beaten by Manchester United, marking the club’s worst run of results since 2014. The Dutchman, unaccustomed to losing games during his debut season, has seen the Reds lose their top spot after three successive Premier League losses and a Champions League defeat. This marked the first time his team had been defeated at Anfield in the league for a year.

However, rather than expressing anger, Slot maintained a calm demeanour in the home dressing room, according to the Daily Mail. He is fully aware of the pressure to return to winning ways, especially given the constant questions arising from a significant summer spending spree.

His success in the Premier League means there are no concerns about his job security. The former Feyenoord boss, currently facing the most significant challenge of his Liverpool tenure, continues to adhere to the principles that have served him well.

Slot has often drawn inspiration from the attitude of Lance Armstrong, a mindset he has instilled in his players. The American used to demoralise his rivals when he was in poor form – smile for the camera, then power ahead up the Alps.

Similarly, Slot continued to smile in the aftermath of Sunday’s game.

Even whilst on international break, when he travelled to Dubai for some sunshine, the Liverpool boss was believed to have dedicated most of the trip contemplating the pressing matters at hand. He was analysing countless clips on his laptop in a bid to halt their decline.

Slot peruses Dutch publication De Telegraaf each morning and tunes into talkSPORT whilst driving to work, but remains largely unaffected by critical commentary in the press, despite clearly being conscious of the storyline engulfing him and his squad.

Slot has opted to reside outside Liverpool city centre – the primary reason being that he can enjoy a more peaceful existence, removed from the barrage of opinions.

He insists that he’s been confronting obstacles since his arrival – initially securing victories, then managing the Jurgen Klopp comparisons and now ending this losing streak.

He said: “I think as a manager you face constantly challenges. When I just started, you face the challenge of being a new manager and then you need to win games. Then when you do well you go to a bigger club and people are like, ‘Oh, let’s see how he does over there.’ Then you go to be the successor of Jürgen Klopp and people say this is the biggest challenge you ever faced.

“Now we have lost four times in a row and that’s also a challenge. So, the life of a football manager is an ongoing challenge. If you win games you want to keep winning, if you lose games you want to start winning again.”
