Three individuals, including a one-year-old child, have been rushed to the hospital following a dog attack on a residential street, that reportedly saw ‘several’ people mauled by the animal.
Armed police officers and an air ambulance were dispatched to a residential area in Denton, Greater Manchester on Thursday evening (May 29). Officers and paramedics are currently stationed on Baslow Road in Haughton Green, responding to reports of a serious incident.
Local families, including children, observed the scene from behind the cordon, with many asking about the unfolding situation. An air ambulance was spotted landing nearby following the dog attack which injured three people, including a one-year-old infant.
The condition of those involved has not yet been confirmed by the police. A significant emergency services presence remained at the scene late into the evening.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police stated that they received a report indicating that “several people” had been attacked. “We were called to Baslow Road, Denton, at around 5:50pm today (29/5/25) to reports several people had been attacked by a dog – three people, a one-year-old child and two adults, are in hospital being treated for their injuries,” they said.
According to the Mirror an eyewitness commented: “There’s people covered in blood and a baby’s been taken to hospital. There were others who looked injured. A dog section and armed police went in with guns.”
“It was shocking,” another resident told the MEN “I didn’t know what had gone on, and then when we found did find out what had happened, it was sad.”
Unconfirmed reports from onlookers suggest that the one-year-old child sustained facial injuries. Videos of the incident showed the offending dog being taken into custody by officers before being secured in the back of a van.
The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) dog unit departed afterwards, though cordons were still in place. Authorities haven’t yet disclosed the breed of the dog involved in the incident.
Residents have been actively inquiring on social media about the circumstances and the wellbeing of those involved. “I hope they are okay,” posted an individual on Facebook.
The concern comes as recent statistics show a rise in canine attacks across England and Wales over the last five years. Official figures for 2024 indicate there were 32,568 recorded instances of dogs causing injury whilst not under proper control – a 4% increase from the previous year.
