There is a way to store apples that keep them fresher and crisper for longer. Apples, whether they are red or green, are best enjoyed when they are firm. That’s when they have the strongest taste and the most satisfying crunchy texture. One of the worst disappointments in life is when you bite into an apple only to find that it has gone soft. But there is a handy trick you can use to keep your apples juicy and crunchy for longer.

It is a method that many people swear by and it is recommended by a number of experts. For apples that last longer, you should store them in a paper bag with a damp paper towel. You can also store them in a perforated plastic bag, also with a damp paper towel. This method, the experts say, help an apple retain its moisture, therefore helping it stay fresher for longer. Additionally, they shopuld be stored in the crisper drawer of your fridge.

The experts at Master Class advise: “To keep them fresh, wrap the apples in a damp paper towel or place them in a plastic bag with holes. Make sure you store apples away from other produce because the ethylene gas that apples give off will make other fruits and vegetables ripen more quickly.”

When it comes to apples that have already been cut, there is also a way to keep these fresh. Apples are known to brown as soon as they have been cut or bitten into. But when you squeeze some lemon juice over apple slices, it helps to keep them fresher for longer.

These slices will keep in the fridge for a few days.

When stopring apples for a long period of time, not in the fridge, you should wrap them in paper indivisually. They will likely need to be kept hydrated, so you can spray them regularly so they don’t lose their moisture.

Plus, you should keep an eye out for bad apples. If one in the bunch goes bad, it is best to get rid of it. If it is left to sit with the other apples, the ethylene gas that is ommitted will make everything else ripen faster.
