If you want to start planning your cosy winter getaways now the weather has turned, but don’t want to spend big there is a top tip that can save you money. When it comes to organising flights and accommodation, certain times of day will reap larger benefits.
It also pays to be prepared – but make sure you don’t start too early. Neil Atkinson, owner of Luxury Group Stay, says booking between 60 and 90 days before your planned winter break date offers the best value on premium group accommodations. He said: “Most people book their winter holiday homes too early or leave it too late.
“The sweet spot falls between mid-September and early October for Christmas stays, and October to November for January or February breaks.”
Booking platform algorithms adjust prices throughout the week, with certain days offering noticeably better rates, too.
Neil said: “Prices typically drop on Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings when fewer people are actively searching.
“Factoring in booking between 2pm and 4pm on Tuesdays and 9am and 11am on Wednesdays can be cost-effective.”
If you’re planning a big group holiday, then you might be in more luck than if you planned a quiet couples retreat
Larger homes, such as six-bedroom properties, are more likely to see mid-week adjustments. Neil said: “Six-bedroom properties see the biggest mid-week price drops as they cater to large families or friend groups who typically plan further ahead.
“Pricing adjustments are based on search patterns, and fewer people look for large properties during these times.”
With larger holidays gaining popularity, there is an opportunity to save some cash.
Neil said: “The trend toward multi-generational family gatherings and friend reunions has created high demand for spacious properties with multiple bedrooms.
“Understanding booking patterns gives travellers an advantage.
“Price algorithms respond to demand, and knowing when demand typically falls gives smart bookers substantial savings opportunities.”
