A two-year-old girl has died a little over two months after she almost drowned on Memorial Day at a Houston hotel pool.
Annelise Camp died on Monday after her life support machines were turned off – bringing an end to the case which sparked a months-long legal battle.
“Annelise is now with Jesus. While our hearts are broken, we trust in His perfect love, His faithfulness, and His promises,” her parents Johnston and Joy Camp wrote on a GoFundMe page.
“We know she is fully healed and experiencing the joy of being in His presence.
“Her precious life will never be taken for granted. God used Annelise to touch countless lives, and we pray that her testimony continues to draw people closer to Christ while bringing hope to children and families facing similar circumstances.
“There are far too many testimonies to share, and we are humbled by the ways God has already used her life. We pray that her legacy continues to inspire compassion, encourage meaningful change, and bring hope to families for years to come.”
A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday for the little girl.
Camp had been fighting for her life in hospital for around 10 weeks following her near-drowning death.
She accidentally wandered into a hotel swimming pool after taking off her life jacket, her father previously said.
The toddler was found unresponsive at the bottom of the pool by her cousin – and her heartbeat didn’t return for almost an hour.
Camp was rushed to the Texas Children’s Hospital and put on a ventilator, but after her admission, doctors thought she was brain dead.
It prompted Camp’s parents to sue the hospital to stop the brain death test, citing their “firmly held religious beliefs,” according to the New York Times.
Hospital officials issued a statement at the time insisting there were “no imminent plans” to end her care.
