When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married in May 2018, Megan wore a stunning wedding dress designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.
The dress was very different from that of a typical Royal bride due to the fact that it didn’t have any lace or lavish details.
However, Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue, thought Meghan looked “fantastic” in her “sophisticated dress.
Anna commented on Meghan’s wedding dress: “It was sophisticated, it was chic, it was grown-up.”
“It was an English designer, albeit one who worked for a French house, which in a way was a message to the world: ‘Yes, I’m from somewhere else, but I belong’. I thought she looked fantastic.”
Clare, who designed the dress, said making it was “just a pleasure.” During the process, she also became friends with Meghan.
She shared this while at the 2023 Bazaar At Work Summit in London, saying: “It was just a pleasure to create in this very, very private way.”
“It was just the two of us for so long, and it became this very personal girlfriend relationship.”
When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married, Clare told reporters at Kensington Palace: “It was an extraordinary moment. It was an incredible thing to be part of such an historic moment and, in fact, to have the opportunity to work with her.”
She also revealed that she and Meghan worked closely together to make the special dress, sharing the special blue fabric that was part of it.
She said: “We basically sewed it into the hem of the wedding dress, so she was the only one that knew that it was there. It was a little blue gingham check.
“It was the perfect personal memento that was secretly hidden inside the dress.”
Meghan had previously hinted at the special piece of fabric in her dress. In the HBO documentary ‘Queen of the World’, she shared: “Somewhere in here there’s a piece of blue fabric that’s stitched inside – it was my something blue.
“It’s fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date.”
