Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said he will act if an ethics report finds his deputy, Angela Rayner, has broken the ministerial code after she admitted to underpaying her stamp duty when purchasing her £800,000 flat in Hove.
Ms Rayner’s political future is at stake as she faces growing calls to resign over the controversy.
The Prime Minister has declined to say if he will sack Ms Rayner, but added that he will act on the findings of the sleaze investigation.
In an interview with the BBC, Sir Keir said: “There’s a clear procedure. I strengthened that procedure. I am expecting a result pretty quickly. I do want it to be comprehensive… and then of course I will act on whatever the report is that’s put in front of me.”
