American woman says she wants to leave UK over small portions sizes and crumpets

An American woman living in the UK has spoken out about her dismay over our portion sizes and distaste for crumpets.

While many people dream of relocating to the UK – with its top-notch cups of tea, iconic fish and chips, stunning castles and the revered NHS – it seems it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Moving from America two years ago, this particular lady has been left baffled by several aspects of life across the pond.

She declares that “so many things in the UK confuse me,” singling out our love of crumpets, Nando’s and our more moderate portion sizes as areas of discontent.

Her strong opinions have ramped up quite a bit of interest on TikTok, making her somewhat of a viral sensation.

In a playful video clip, she discusses the “strange things I have noticed since living in the UK which I’ve had to put up with and why I really want to leave”.

Documenting parts of her daily life, she comments on the misleading location of British airports: “All British airports pretend to be in London, but when you arrive you need to take trains which actually take hours to get to London.”

Her criticism didn’t stop at transportation. Filming the bread aisle in a supermarket, she voiced further disappointment: “All British style bread in the grocery store here has massive holes on the top of it meaning when you put your butter or toppings on it they fall inside the bread, causing problems”.

Next, she said that “all British teenagers have their first dates in this strange restaurant called Nando’s so when you go it’s always full of naughty kids on their cellphones making loads of noise, causing chaos.”

In another video, she also said that the restaurants have “free sauces but they are all so unhygienic as everyone uses the same bottle, which never gets cleaned”.

She wasn’t happy with the “portion sizes” either, saying they are “really tiny”. She also had a go at Nando’s, saying “Nando’s is the most overhyped restaurant in the world as the food is always burnt and all the sauces are so gross.”

Talking about other things she finds annoying in the UK, she mentioned: “Theft is a huge and serious problem here, especially in all British grocery stores. It’s so bad that they even have to put security tags on the shopping carts, otherwise they will get stolen.”

Lastly, the American took a video of a pedestrian crossing and mentioned: “All cars and trucks have to stop by law at these annoying chequered style crossing points which slows traffic down and causes major traffic crashes and accidents.”

Many Brits were surprised by the American’s comments and defended their country online.

One person commented: “So you have a problem with theft but not people getting shot in America every day,” while another joked: “No gun crime though …. That’s a little more serious in the US than sharing a bottle of Nando’s sauce.”

One person commented: “Nando’s was literally the only thing edible and not overpriced when I was in London for four days they need it in USA,” while another posted fiercely: “Leave then.”
