This year, Burns Night falls on a Saturday, marking the 265th anniversary of the birth of Scotland’s most renowned poet, Robert Burns ‘The Bard’. Celebrated globally and with a life rich in stories, Burns penned hundreds of poems and folk songs.

What better way to pay tribute than by raising a glass of something special?

Currently, Amazon is offering a £110 bottle of Talisker Special Release for £48, a big discount of 56%. This limited edition single malt scotch whisky is highly sought after, and it’s not hard to see why.

Its tasting notes boast “rich, robust flavours” that have gained “rounded, fruity notes from subtle finishing, which embrace but do not tame the classic Talisker character”. Best enjoyed neat, simply pour 50ml into a whisky glass and savour the taste.

It’s not just a solitary drink either; you can share it with friends and family for some collective appreciation. Alternatively, given its special release status, it could be a worthy addition to your collection, reports the Daily Record.

So far, it has received an average rating of 4.2 out of five stars on Amazon from 60 reviews. One reviewer perfectly encapsulated it by writing: “This is a great expression that really sums up the seas crashing against rocks in a bottle, love that sea spray finish, a bottle for special friends or a special occasion”.

One satisfied customer described it as “an absolutely cracking young single malt”. Another commented: “Firstly I’ve seen people say about taste a lot of cask strength are not for everyone. If too strong add a little water brings out the flavour without losing all that strength. A good buy in my opinion. Tastes lovely and at this price amazing value.”

However, not all reviews were glowing, with one buyer stating: “The reality in the glass and in the mouth is somewhat different. There is none of the intensity depth or complexity or finish that cask strength should bring. Indeed, the only thing that I can find to recommend this is that it is balanced and does pull off a very difficult cask challenge.”

You won’t be short of variety if you want to shop around. Tesco has The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky for £35. You can also get a bit of a few different whisky worlds if you like and opt for something like this really nifty Regions of Scotland whisky tasting set from Master of Malt, which is £30.95 online.
