Amazon Prime lists its top summer reads before you watch the series

Wondering what your next read might be? Or just looking for a new series to binge? Amazon Prime Video is celebrating the power of storytelling with a new wave of book-to-screen adaptations this summer. The books are available to buy on Kindle or in print from Amazon.

Jen Barrett at Amazon Books UK said: “There is a certain magic in discovering stories via the written word and getting lost in our own imagination – whether it’s romance, fantasy, or anything in between.

“Reading before watching an adaptation gives us the opportunity to conjure up our own interpretations of the characters and scenery before seeing it brought to life on screen, and it’s one of the things I love most about reading.”

These are the most highly anticipated series that have been adapted from books that are coming our way over the summer months:

We Were Liars based on the book by E. Lockhart (June 18)

Based on the best-selling novel by E. Lockhart, We Were Liars, the series follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her tight-knit inner circle, nicknamed the Liars, during their summer escapades on her grandfather’s New England private island.

The Sinclairs are American royalty – known for their good looks, old money, and enviable bond – but after a mysterious accident changes Cadence’s life forever, everyone, including her beloved Liars, seems to have something to hide.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 based on the books by Jenny Han (July 16)

Based on the best-selling book trilogy from Jenny Han, the Prime Video drama has been a breakout success. Season Two of The Summer I Turned Pretty is one of the 10 most watched seasons of any series ever on the service.

The second season premiered on July 14, and more than doubled Season One’s viewership within three days of launch.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a multigenerational drama that hinges on a love triangle between one girl and two brothers, the ever-evolving relationship between mothers and their children, and the enduring power of strong female friendship. It is a coming-of-age story about love, heartbreak and life.
